Harvest of 2020

The 2020 Pandemic certainly changed the way that businesses were run and guests were entertained.  The "good" news was rain kept raining, sun kept shining and grapes kept growing.  The harvest of 2020 has proven to be the high point of the year.  We have re-created some of the favorites of the past years and some new, limited production wines for the 2021 Season.

2020 Boykin Blend

2021 Loudoun Wine Awards - Silver
2021 Texas Int'l Awards - Bronze

The latest version of our signature, award-winning wine is made up of 25% Estate-grown Chambourcin; 25% Loudoun Cabernet Sauvignon; 35% Waterford Merlot; and 15% Estate-grown Corot Noir. The appearance is a clear deep, dark ruby that introduces the very appealing, light wood and vanilla nose with soft notes of spice, floral and chocolate/cassis.

The taste is disciplined, centered on the fruit of dark, unsweetened plums and cherries and balanced with nice tannins.  This Bordeaux-style blend finishes big and could pair well with many proteins but would be great with grilled beef or pork.

As always, $1 from each bottle sold is donated to Boykin Spaniel Rescue and we thank you!

2020 Cab Franc

2021 Loudoun Wine Awards - Silver
2021 Texas Int'l Awards - Silver

Our 2019 Cabernet Franc won Best of Class Gold Medal in the Loudoun Wine Awards and we sold out fast!  Using that winemaking knowledge and grapes from the same Loudoun source we anticipate great things from our 2020 Cabernet Franc. The translucent ruby/garnet color unveils a wonderful aroma of savory spices with undertones of Black Pepper.

The elegant, Classic Virginian, Cab Franc flavor of dark cherry with subtle spiciness maintains a balanced background of tannins to acid that remains on the palate for an enjoyable finish.  This wonderful wine could compliment any grilled dinner or enhance any beautiful sunset.

2020 Chambourcin

2021 Loudoun Wine Awards - Silver

The lovely Claret purple of this light bodied wine trends to a violet with medium viscosity and no effervescence.  Winemaker Bob loves the Chambourcin grape and continues to explore the possibilities with 100% Estate grown Chambourcin.  The nose presents with pleasant, perfumey notes that evolve from floral to soft, earthy undertones.  The taste is dark, red fruit forward with light tannins and a great mouth feel finish.  Chambourcin 2020 could be served slightly chilled or could lay down a couple months to be enjoyed with a hardy stew such as beef or venison.

2020 Chardonel

Our 100% Chardonel has proven to be a Forever Farm favorite and we know why.  The clear, consistent appearance is a light Silver/Gold, with a touch of green hues and begins with a tropical honeysuckle nose that reveals a crisp, light flavor of grapefruit or Meyer lemons.  The bright finish is brought about from a well-balanced ratio of acid to alcohol.  This wine will pair well with spicey foods and good friends.

2020 Forever Blush

The salmon pink color of this 2020, Estate-grown, 100% Cab Franc has been called “magnificent” and “lovely” and you can see why!  The light berry nose includes some hints of floral undertones with classic Virginian herbaceous notes.  This “Summer in a Bottle” wine starts off with watermelon fruit forward, includes some crisp acids and then lingers on the clean and refreshing finish.  Some interesting pairing suggestions include cheesecake or a drizzle over some berries for a summertime snack.

2020 Red Barn Red

2021 Loudoun Wine Awards - Silver

Our second year of this unique red blend follows the same winemaking procedures as used in our 2019 vintage, by fermenting two varietals in the same vessel.  This year’s grapes are estate grown and the wine consists of 59% Chambourcin and 41% Cab Franc.  The process produces a lovely, smooth and well-rounded easy drinking wine. The spicey nose gives way to a very light bodied, well structured red fruit flavor with light tannins.  A complex finish plays out with a cherry licorice surprise.

2020 White Oak Blend

2021 Texas Int'l Awards - Bronze

Another favorite from last season, the White Oak Blend is a bit different from the 2019 version.  The Chardonel was replaced with Viognier (49%) to go along with the Chardonnay (51%).  The blend has produced a slightly floral, lite melon flavor.  There is a bit of musk on the nose that could be described as woodsy and light smoke which is also reflected in the flavor profile which includes some very earthy overtones.  The finish has a savory, floral aftertaste that would pair well with mild to smokey cheeses.

Visione

2021 Loudoun Wine Awards - Silver

A couple years back Winemaker Bob planted some Sangiovese vines on the over-hang of our barn.  They grew surprisingly well, and a light bulb went off above his winemaking brain.  He decided to create a red table wine that reminded him of his youth in South Jersey. Then the pandemic hit and he really wanted to have something special come out of 2020, thus the Visioné  was born.  Created entirely with Estate grown grapes, 33% Noriet; 24% Sangiovese 27%  Carmenere; and 16% Geneva Red.

This wine is a deep purple with a refreshing combination of Savory and Confectionary spices.  Its flavor is on the peppery side with dark black fruit – cherries, plums and some fig undertones.  The finish is big and sustains the elegance of all the complex flavors rolled into a nice, round mouth feel.  The Visioné can stand up to High End Italian food or a nice bowl of pasta and red sauce.  It is presented in a full liter “Fiasco” bottle for your enjoyment.

2020 Norton jpeg.jpeg

Norton

2021 Loudoun Wine Awards - Silver

We are introducing a small production of a solid representative of North Virginia Norton made up of 95% Norton from down the road at Woodgrove Meadows Vineyard, blended with 5% Merlot.

So far, the comments on this deep purple, offering is that it is not a typical Norton.  It is easy drinking but of true executive quality.

The nose is full of baking spices and reminiscent of Pumpkin Spice Latte and all things autumnal – forest floor, leaves, hints of foxy, unsweetened fruit.  It is the taste of the vineyard, of pure-unadulterated fruit.  The dark plum flavor is sustained on the palate and has a slightly jammy finish.  You could pair this wine with chocolate and/or raspberries for a wonderful treat around the fire pit!  Additionally would pair well with a hardy cheese (Stilton) and walnuts.
